2002 MAQBOOL FIDA HUSSAIN WATERCOLOR PAINTING: Mother Teresa series. Maqbool Fida Hussein (India 1913-2011). Image of two women, one with an infant, other with a dove. Signed lower right. Very well-known artist from India. Celebrated as one of India's preeminent Modernists, M.F. Husain is best known for his distinctive visual language that evokes the rhythm and energy of contemporary India and emphasizes the richness of its civilization. This vibrant idiom seamlessly fuses stylistic and thematic aspects of the Western modernist vocabulary with the Indian visual tradition. "All forms of art are born from one's roots". The name Maqbool Fida Husain has become almost synonymous with contemporary Indian art, and deservedly so, for no single artist has popularized Indian art, within the country or internationally, as Husain has done.  His endless quest for his cultural roots and a fearlessly open-minded willingness to absorb diverse influences has made M.F. Husain one of the most recognizable figures of contemporary Indian art. Included in the lot is a Certificate of Authenticity from Shafat Hussain, eldest son of the artist M.F. Hussein stating that this painting is from his personal family collection and is sold by him to a well-known Mumbai collector in 2014. Original certificate will be sent with the painting upon purchase. Image 14 ¼ inches x 20 1/2 inches. Good condition. SOLD $13,200
