SIGNED JOSE REYES NANTUCKET FRIENDSHIP PURSE: With hand written signed letter, March 1970, to owner of the basket. Letter in reply to owner’s letter wanting to move to Nantucket and perhaps take over his basket making business in their retirement. Reyes responds that he has no plans to give up his business. Specially made and named for the owner. Signed on base Made in Nantucket Jose Formosa Reyes. Oval form with a hand carved ivory whale mounted on a walnut plaque, ivory latch and handle pegs, securing swing handle, overall measurement with handle up is 12" tall x 9-1/2" long x 7" deep. Jose Formosa Reyes (1902-1980) was the first Nantucket basket maker to make a woman’s purse around 1948. From that time until his retirement in 1978, it has been estimated that he made over 5,000 baskets. José died at his home on Nantucket, December 24th, 1980. Oval form with a hand carved ivory whale mounted on a walnut plaque, ivory latch and handle pegs, securing swing handle, overall measurement approximately 6 inches tall (excluding handle) x 91/2 inches wide x 6 inches deep.

EDWARDIAN STERLING SILVER MONTEITH PUNCH BOWL: Hallmarks of Robert Martin & Ebenezer Hall ca 1883-1904. Along with the many changes made to English society during the reign of King William III (of Orange) and Queen Mary II, society also created an exceptionally elegant form of drinking punch known by the name of the “Monteith Bowl”. Reputedly named after a man of fashion who was remarked for wearing a scalloped coat for which the bowls rim resembled.   The bowls special edge allowed for glasses or mugs to be hung upside down in the bowl to help chill in advance of serving while also allowing for a ladle and strainer to be placed across the top.  Ribbed body on gadrooned dome foot. Wide reverse scallop repousse rim. Double handles in the form of lion masks with stirrup ring drops. Oval scroll framed cartouches front and back. One enhanced with engraved English crest with lions. Approximately131 troy ounces. Measures overall approximately 15 1/4 inches wide including handles x 11 ½ inches tall.

M.F. HUSAIN WATECOLOR PAINTING: Ca 2000. Maqbool Fida Husain (India 1915-2011) was a modern Indian painter of International acclaim and founding member of the Bombay Progressive Artists’ Group and is most celebrated and recognized Indian artist of the 20th century and his paintings are in most major private collections and museums around the world. Titled “Village Lady, watercolor on paper. Signed lower right. Colorful painting of young Indian woman dancing with an elephant. Image 33 inches x 24 inches.  Husain’s narrative paintings are executed in a modified Cubist style and can be caustic and funny as well as serious and sombre.  Provenance: This painting was purchased directly from the artist by a well  known art collector of Mubai, now based in Canada. It is certified by the artist’s family in 2012, which also states that the painting was sold directly by the artis himself. The painting is now part of an estate collection based in Massachusetts. Certificate of Authenticity from artist’s son. Good condition.

BOUND ALBUM PRE-REVOLUTIONARY & PRE-CIVIL WAR ERA FAMILY PAPERS OF BOUND ALBUM PRE-REVOLUTIONARY & PRE-CIVIL WAR ERA FAMILY PAPERS OF KEITH FAMILY of BRIDGEWATER MASSACHUSETTS: Comprised by Slvanus Keith (born 1792). Album titled Family Papers of Sylvanus Keith 1862. Book of Original Deeds, Wills, Abstracts and lands laid out & surveyed and additional papers & etc, Over 200 cataloged, identified and indexed pages. Several signed documents including deeds and wills the Keith family and other prominent families in “ancient” Bridgewater, Massachusetts from the early 1700’s through 1800’s descending from Rev. James Keith (1644-1719), the first minister of Bridgewater in 1662. Rev. Keith had much to do with saving the life of the wife and son of the Indian chief, King Philip, in 1676.  Of significance are deeds, will, etc, bearing signatures of Robert Keith, great grandson of Rev. James Keith. Robert Keith was a Minuteman who marched to Lexington and Concord during the beginning of the American Revolutionary War. Keith built the Keith Home in 1783 on the family lands Bridgewater. It has since been acquired by the town of Bridgewater for historic preservation. Book in fragile condition with some loose pages, etc. Documents in good condition for age.

RUSSIAN ENAMEL SILVER SUGAR SCOOP SPOON: Enamel decorated stem with blue, red and white geometric decoration. Silver bowl with unusual overall beaded decoration in the same colors. Center silver field with initials C F. Hallmarks. Measures 5 inches long.

CARL KOUBA BRONZE SCULPTURE OF A GRISSLY BEAR: Set on a granite stone base. Carl Kouba (Austria, United States 1865-1922) is known for American Western themes sculpture. Very detailed and naturalistic sculpture of a walking bear. Signed inside back leg. Measures approximately 10 ½ inches long x 5 ½ inches tall.

18TH C OLD MASTER STUDY DRAWING FALLEN MALE NUDE: Pencil or charcoal on paper with white chalk highlights. Male nude face down clutching his head in distress. Very detailed muscle definition. Signed lower right Gio Gatta Lorenzi (?) Venezia. Paper measures approximately 11 ¾ inches x 17 ¾ inches.  

JAPANESE CARVED IVORY SCULPTURE: Ca 20th century, Showa period. Very detailed piece depicting cabbage leaves with a lotus blossom and a grasshopper. Polychrome accents. Measures 6 inches long. Carved rosewood stand. The Shōwa period (JapaneseShōwa potentially "period of enlightened peace/harmony" or "period of radiant Japan"), or Shōwa era, refers to the period of Japanese history corresponding to the reign of the Shōwa Emperor, Hirohito, from December 25, 1926 until his death on January 7, 1989. The Shōwa period was longer than the reign of any previous Japanese emperorthe pre-1945 and post-war periods regard completely different states: the pre-1945 Shōwa period (1926–1945) concerns the Empire of Japan, while post-1945 Shōwa period (1945–1989) was a part of the State of Japan.

SATURDAY EVENING GIRLS SEG ART POTTERY MUG:  Sara Galner (1894-1982) artist decorated. Large glazed ceramic mug decorated in cuerda seca  "dry cord"  technique used when applying coloured glazes to ceramic surfaces. (When different coloured glazes are applied to a ceramic surface, the glazes have a tendency to run together during the firing process. In the cuerda seca technique, the water-soluble glazes are separated on the surface by thin lines of a greasy substance to prevent them running out of their delineated areas. A dark pigment such as manganese carbonate is usually mixed with the grease to produce a dark line around each coloured area.) Decorated with three fishing boats. Colors of blue, green mustard and black on cream ground. Signed and numbered with artist initials S.G. Measures approximately 5 inches tall excluding handle x 3 ¾ inches diameter at top and 4 ¼ inches diameter at base. Good condition.

Top section with original glass top and three glass door cabinets with original milk glass and painted tin shelves. Measures 35 inches wide x 62 inches tall x 16 ½ inches deep. Good condition.

DOULTON LAMBETH ART NOUVEAU JARDINIERE & PEDESTAL: Ca 1890. Ornate raised slip ware designs with stylized Lotus leaves and rosettes. Wide dark blue band and mottled light green ground.  Impressed signatures on both pieces and number Y18 and possible artist initials RB. Jardiniere measures 16 ½ inches in diameter x 13 5/8 inches tall. Pedestal measures 12 3/16 inches in diameter x 18 ¼ inches tall.

GREEK 925 SILVER COVERED CASSEROLE/BOWL: Ornate repousee decoration with band of grape leaves vine around body of vessel. Lid with same band of leaves and figural finial with 3 strawberries with leaves. Gold wash interior bowl and lid. Signed inside bowl with Greek name and 925. Double handles. Measures 6 7/8 inches wide top diameter. Measures approximately overall 9 ¾ inches wide x 7 ½ inches tall. Approximately 30.28 troy ounces.

18TH C CHINESE YONGZHENG DYNASTY PORCELAIN VASE: (Ca 1723-1735). Overall detailed enamel colorful millefleur floral decoration on black ground. Footed bulbous pear shape. Orange lion red handles. Measures 11 ½ inches tall x approximately 8 inches wide. Blue Yongzheng stamp mark on base.
